I wasn't the first pick. I wasn't the standout. I was the kid moved to the B team who had to figure out, mostly alone, what it actually took to keep going.
What followed was D1 soccer at Wisconsin, a Big Ten championship, a first-round MLS Draft pick, and a professional career that took me from Orlando to Scotland to Chicago and eventually to the USMNT.
