Why “More Exposure” Is the Most Expensive Wrong Answer in Youth Soccer

Self-Awareness & Growth

There’s a particular kind of tired that only soccer parents know.

It’s the midnight tired. The kind where the house is quiet, your player is finally asleep, and you’re on your phone again, scrolling a ranking site, reading a forum, comparing your kid to a stranger’s, trying to answer a question nobody will give you a straight answer to.

Are we doing enough?

The world of comparison and consumable content across social channels doesn’t make navigating these waters any easier, either… So if that’s you, I want you to know something first, before I mention anything else.

You are not falling behind and I really need you to hear me on that. Your player is not behind.

You have just been dropped into one of the most confusing games there is, with almost none of the rules explained. That’s what navigating the youth soccer landscape in this country feels like.

Between the different platforms, player pathways, club opportunities and technical training sessions… That’s what player development and college recruitment feels like for most families. A ton of noise. A black box. Where your money and effort and hope get invested on one side, and you have no real idea what’s happening inside, or what actually comes out the other end.

And it’s unfortunate that there is an entire industry built on top of that fog. Taking advantage of the lack of clarity and your desire to just help your kid, or help them help themselves.

Showcases that promise exposure. Services that promise contacts. Ranking sites that turn your child into a number and then charge you to feel anxious about it. The sad part is that most of them aren’t built to give you clarity, but to sell you the next thing that might finally be the answer.

So families do the only thing they can do without a map. They guess. They spend. They chase exposure like it’s the whole game, because everyone keeps telling them it is. And you don’t know who to believe because again, the noise is deafening…

But I want you to pull away from the idea that exposure is the lever.

Getting seen more is not the same as getting recruited. I have watched players get seen by a hundred coaches and recruited by none, and I have watched players with a fraction of the “exposure” get exactly where they wanted to go. The difference was never about who was watching.

The difference is always whether the player, and the family behind them, actually understood the game from the other side of the table.

Knowing what really matters, what’s a waste of time and money, and where you should truly be investing your time, attention, and money…

Because recruiting is not really a talent contest or a visibility contest. It’s a fit contest. A coach is not just asking “can this kid play?” They’re asking a whole list of questions you never get to hear. Questions about character, about coachability, about whether you’ll be a problem or a gift to their program, about timing, about need. And when you don’t know what those questions are, you spend years trying to answer the wrong ones.

That is the real cost of the black box. Not just the money, though there’s plenty of that. It’s the years. It’s the good decisions you couldn’t make because no one showed you the board you were actually playing on.

So what’s the way out?

It’s not more noise. It’s not another showcase or another ranking.

It’s understanding. It’s getting to hear, honestly and directly, how this actually works from the people who actually make the decisions and those who’ve actually been in the arena, walked every step of the journey you’re trying to walk… to act as your filter for all of the BS getting thrown in your face.

It’s time to trade the fog for clarity, and your fears for a plan.

When a family finally sees the game for what it is, everything changes. The panic comes down. The spending gets smarter. And the player feels confident because they are following a plan they KNOW can bring them the results they ultimately desire.

Providing that clarity is one of the biggest reasons I’m building the BTB Locker Room.

Inside, families don’t have to crack the black box alone, continue guessing, or take the industry’s word for anything. They get to hear it straight.

I’m not going to lay all of that out here. But I want you to know it exists, and that you don’t have to keep doing this the hard way.

You’re not behind. You’ve just been playing a game no one ever explained.

The doors open August 1. There’s nothing to sign up for. Just be there when they open, and stay on the lookout to join early as a founding member, at the best this offer will ever be.

We’re going to change this game. Together.

And I’m going to be in your corner, guiding you, teaching you, and showing you every step of the way.

Stay tuned…
